Nattick, MA SEPT 9-11

The Natick crew has been through pretty much all of my SD material, so this course is intended as a wrap-up/pass the torch thing. I think it will be just as valuable for a beginner or someone completely unfamiliar with my material if they have the right kind of open mind. It’s going to focus on deriving the principles of your personal style, understanding and transmitting them. Sounds esoteric, I know but it's really not.

Elements of Principles-based teaching

     •     What are you teaching? (Subject matter)

     •     Who? (student profiles)

     •     Deriving your principles

     •     Building blocks and concepts

     •     Teaching, Training, Conditioning and Play

     •     Pattern: General game/skill build/ specific game/ repeat

     •     Coaching the drills

     •     Flexible lesson plan

     •     Revolving Curriculum

What Defines "Effective and Realistic"?

     •     Touchstone: Design-a-Crime

     •     Perfect victims

     •     Attributes

     •     Defining and developing “skill”

This will be about developing adaptable, idiosyncratic skill in your students. It won't be fun or satisfying for people who think there are one-size-fits all solutions to complicated problems. People who are sure or need to be sure should probably skip this one. This is a world where the best possible answer can leave widows and orphans, and mental flexibility is the key to both survival and functional sanity afterwards.

THERE WILL BE TWO INTERTWINED THEMES: 1) Deriving Realistic Self Defense Options

2)Effectively Teaching Those Options
